New Year Goals Over 40

Hey there, fabulous 40-and-over friends! Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe we are already one full week into the New Year. How are those New Year’s goals and resolutions going so far?

New Year, New You

As we embrace the new beginnings of another year, let’s make a pact: 2024 is going to be our BEST year ever.

How? By taking simple, actionable steps to amplify our well-being, sprinkle in some mindfulness, and stir in a touch of motivation to help us crush those New Year goals. For me personally, I don’t believe in resolutions. Instead, I choose a single word to guide my year. This year, my word is CONSISTENCY. I want to be more consistent in showing up for you, here, in my blog AND I want to be more consistent in some other areas of my life, including weight training!

Whether you are looking to lose weight, prioritize your mental and physical health, make a career change, or simply live your best life in 2024, here are some straightforward, no-nonsense tips to help you rock this year:

Meal Prep Mastery

Okay, let’s start with a game-changer: meal prepping. I started doing this in January of last year, and it helped me lose over 20 pounds last year-and keep it off!

You don’t have to be a Weight Watcher follower to benefit from meal prepping. However, if you do follow Weight Watchers, meal prepping will help you plan out your daily points too! Spending just a little bit of time each week to plan and prep your meals can save time, money, and calories.

Just today, I prepped my breakfast and lunch for the week. I also batch cooked one of my go-to crock pot dinner recipes – turkey chili – that I adapted from one of my favorite websites, skinnytaste.com!

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more posts on my favorite meal prepping tips to help you get started prepping healthy meals in advance, portion them out, and get set for nutritious meals throughout the week. Bonus: It’ll keep those “what’s for dinner?” dilemmas at bay!

Rise and Shine Mindfully

Say hello to a mindful morning routine. Here’s a little secret of mine: I am VERY protective and particular about my morning routine! After all, how you spend your morning sets the tone for your entire day. I will also be posting in the weeks to come more about my particular morning routine and how you can start one too.

But for now, I would suggest starting your day by sipping warm lemon water. It’s like a gentle wake-up call for your digestive system. Follow it up with a few minutes of meditation or simply sit quietly, focusing on your breath.

In addition, I have been using the guided morning meditations from the Boho Beautiful YouTube channel. They are only about 10 minutes, and it is a great way to center yourself and start your day! It’s amazing how this small slice of tranquility can set a positive tone for the entire day.

Step Up Your Steps

Let’s get moving! Aim to up your step game daily. Take the stairs, walk during lunch breaks, or have a post-dinner stroll. It’s not just about exercise; it’s about feeling invigorated and alive. I aim for 10,000 steps a day and my apple fitness watch helps me track my steps throughout the day.

Hydration Station

Water, water everywhere! Increase your water intake—it’s a game-changer for your skin, energy levels, and overall health. Keep a bottle handy and sip away throughout the day. You’ll thank yourself later!

Goal Getter

Grab a pen and paper and jot down your goals. Make them specific, achievable, and exciting. Whether it’s fitness milestones, career aspirations, or personal growth, writing them down solidifies your commitment and helps you track your progress.

In fact, if you are looking for an awesome resource for setting goals in the New Year, check out this free downloadable workbook, Make 2024 Your Best Year, from one of my favorite motivational speakers, Mel Robbins. I have been working through this workbook myself this week, and it’s been a great tool to reflect on the highlights of 2023, set goals for 2024, and get intentional about creating the best year of your life!

2024 – Your Blank Canvas

Finally, remember that 2024 is your blank canvas—paint it with positivity, health, and self-care. Keep it simple, stay CONSISTENT, and most importantly, be kind to yourself along the way. Let’s make this year the one we look back on and say, “That was the year I truly found myself and lived my best life!”

Cheers to an incredible 2024, full of growth, laughter, and making every moment count. You’ve got this, and I’ll be right here to help guide you along the way!
